WARNING: Some of the following, while not technically containing nudity, is certainly NSFW. Please use common sense and avoid clicking the "READ MORE" button if you'd rather not see that sort of content. Thank you. Well, you clicked. Don't say I didn't warn you! ;)I started my night by walking in with VIP fans who were giddy with excitement over the impending visit they were about to have with more than a handful of beautiful women. While in line I met and accidentally cut in front of some very sweet people who accepted my apology. My self-inflicted penance was a quality photo of them with the performers pictured below. Thanks again Becca. After meeting and greeting everyone the Suicide Girls went backstage to start prepping and the fans took their seats. With over an hour to go till game time I was surprised to hear over the loudspeaker that they had added a new feature: local burlesque performances in certain cities. Eugene happens to have just that sort of thing, The Broadway Revue Burlesque Show. A little more in the tradition of classic burlesque than the headliner (ok, a lot more!) I assumed that the audience reaction wouldn't be very libidinous. Oh me of little faith. From the first dancer to the last, with passion and joy, the fans behind me yelled encouragement. To break up waiting periods the saucy Sunny Suicide came out to tease and please. Having such a powerful stage presence you never would guess our MC began as a participant in the show's audience participation portion in a previous outing. But this is no secret. She tells the story in an inspiring "follow your dreams" style that captures your attention for the next step in the show... Once she left the stage it was time for the lights to come down and the DJ to drop some bass. With Die Antwoord's "Cookie Thumper" screaming over the speakers the dancers flew out in Kigurumi pajamas. From this point on there was no slow down. If you weren't already prepared you were never going to be! There were playful sets involving characters from Adventure Time, Link from Legend of Zelda and Sailor Moon. Other sets focused on movies and pop culture like Thriller, Superheroes, A Clockwork Orange, Orange Is The New Black, The Fifth Element and of course Rocky Horror. Heck, even Princess Leia Organa made an appearance. The performers really showed their ability during a BDSM-esque dance I can only assume was inspired by the popularity of 50 Shades. With intense movements and visible exhaustion you could feel the emotion they had poured into their offering. This seemed like the most artistically appealing of all the sets and a keystone to the entire performance. Willing and ready to tackle anything, the audience was also exposed to something genuinely odd. Donnie Darko! To close out Suicide Girls Blackheart Burlesque they went with a signature set, Storm Troopers Featuring Boba Fett. With so much included in one performance I highly recommend a second trip to see these talented women. For this photog, having an idea of what was about to be unleashed made for a completely different experience. I was able to focus on the images being captured instead of the reaction I was having to the performance.
I'd be remiss not to mention the social significance of a show like this. Our society says this kind of sexual expression should be hidden, or at least confined to bachelor parties and seedy dive stripper joints. In defiance of such puritanical views, these true artists of their craft put forth a showing of sexuality, sensuality and strength. The End.
